𝔹𝕒𝕙𝕒𝕞𝕒𝕤: 𝔹𝕝𝕦𝕖 𝕃𝕒𝕘𝕠𝕠𝕟 𝕀𝕤𝕝𝕒𝕟𝕕

A few miles northeast of Nassau is a cozy little island, Blue Lagoon Island, that is home to many animal experiences, tours, and beaches. Quite a bit prior to our trip, Kyle and his friend had set up a fly fishing trip to catch Bone fish. So that left myself and our 3 other friends to find another excursion in the Bahamas.

When we arrived, there were 4 or 5 other cruise ships there so we figured that Atlantis would be a disaster of crowds and people. We hadn’t signed up for any excursions this trip but we figured that it might not be a bad idea to sign up for one here since we weren’t sure what else to do.

We ended up finding an excursion to Blue Lagoon Island. This included a round-trip ferry ride to and from the island, lunch, and segway tour around the island. The ferry ride to the island took just above 30 minutes and we had to eat lunch right when we got there so we could get to our segway tour. This is my only critique for this excursion is that the lunch place was only open for another 30 minutes once we arrived. Therefore, we had to eat quickly once we got there before they closed. I think it would had been nicer to get to eat after the segway tour.

Anyways, finding and checking into our tour was pretty simple but somewhat lengthy as they had to check off each person on the segway. If you aren’t already aware, it is preferred to wear closed back shoes. No one informed us of this but they ended up letting it slide for some other people in our group. I wore my chacos and they had no problem with them.

Once the tour got started we were going REALLY slow. I figured this was because they wanted us to get used to the feel of it and going across different landscape. I was wrong. We went so slow the whole time which was kind of annoying. Regardless of the speed, we got access to parts of the island that aren’t accessible otherwise. Our tour guide had nice knowledge about the history of the island.

We would park our segways and get off throughout the tour so we could go see different things. We first went down to the water where they first housed the marine animals. This area is not longer used as the animals were moved to a larger spot. This area is home to some friendly nurse sharks and our tour guide was able to get them to come right up to the stairs.

We also stopped at McCutcheon’s Tower which is a historical landmark built sometime in the early 1900’s when the McCutcheon family owned the island. We were able to go to the top of the tower and you can really stellar views of the water and the lagoon.

The length of the tour was 1 hour which was a good length in my opinion. When we returned from the segway tour, we still had some time to kill before we had to head back to the ship. We decided to go to a more secluded beach on the west side. We attempted snorkeling here but there was really nothing to see. We ended up just relaxing on some floaties until the last ferry came.

We had to be back to the ship at 6:30 so our ferry ride back gave us some nice sunset views!
